Quality monitoring of seawater with Turbimax CUS52D

Drinking water consumption in Hong Kong could be reduced by 20% by using seawater for toilet flushing. The constant water supply for the population could be ensured by pumping stations on the coast, regardless of changing weather and sea state.

Challenge

Before the water is made available to consumers, it must be ensured that the water quality complies withthe guidelines of the Water Quality Objectives (WQO) despite constantly changing sea conditions. For this reason it was decided to replace the previous time-consuming and errorprone laboratory measurements with a reliable online monitoring system .

Our Solution

To comply with the WQO, free chlorine, dissolved oxygen and pH need to be measured in addition to turbidity. The customer decided on a water analysis panel on which the sensors are installed. To ensure reliable measurements in seawater, the CUS52D is equipped with ultrasonic cleaning and an air bubble trap for self-cleaning. The application has been running for more than two years, 16 measuring points were equipped with the analysis panel.
